I thought the 'dollar per pound' rule at the grocery store was just a silly saying
My friend in Cincinnati swore by only buying produce under a dollar a pound, and I figured it was too simple. After tracking my receipts for two months, I found my average meal cost dropped by 30% when I stuck to carrots, onions, and cabbage that week. Has anyone else found a basic rule like that actually works?

Watched a buddy survive a brutal grad school year on a strict "no single item over two dollars" grocery rule. His diet was 90% beans, rice, and whatever bruised fruit was on clearance. He swears it's the only reason his bank account didn't implode.

Honestly, this hits so close to home. I see this everywhere now, not just with students. People are getting crazy creative to make ends meet. My neighbor only buys meat when it's marked down right before closing, and another friend figured out which day her local bakery sells day-old bread for pennies. It's like we're all playing this weird, stressful game to beat the system.

My cousin in Chicago does something similar, but she adds cheap spices to make the beans and rice taste different each week.
