I think the bulk bins at my local co-op are a bad deal now
I was at the River City Co-op yesterday and checked the price on rolled oats. The bulk bin was $2.49 a pound, but the packaged store brand right next to it was $1.99 for an 18 ounce bag. That's a big difference for the same thing. They had the same issue with lentils and rice, where the bagged stuff was cheaper per ounce. It feels like the bulk section used to be the cheap option, but now it's just for people who want a tiny amount of something fancy. Has anyone else seen their store's bulk prices go way up?

Maybe it's just a weird price thing at that one store? Bulk bins still save money on spices and stuff you only need a pinch of. Seems like a small thing to get worked up about.

Always check the price per ounce first.

Wait, you think it's a small thing? The whole point of bulk bins is to not pay for packaging. If the store is charging more per ounce than the packaged stuff, they're just scamming people who think they're being smart. It's not about getting worked up, it's about calling out a rip-off when you see it. That's how they get away with it, everyone just shrugs.
