Just realized my kid thinks I'm a wizard at work
I was explaining to my 8 year old how we make a sand mold for a gear housing last week. I got into the details about parting lines and risers, and he just looked at me and said, 'So you make a sand castle, pour magic hot metal into it, and a metal thing pops out?' I mean, he's not totally wrong, but it hit different hearing it like that. It made me step back and see the whole process through his eyes for a second. All the years of focusing on chill times and slag control, and to him it's just cool magic. It was a funny little moment that made me appreciate the craft in a new way. Has anyone else had a family member describe what we do in a way that made you laugh or think?

Magic hot metal" is a great way to put it. Did it make you want to show him the process?

Tell my kid I'm basically a high temp metal chef and his eyes just glazed over. Said that sounded way less cool than a wizard. Guess I gotta work on my presentation skills or get a bigger hat.
