Watched Twin Peaks for years before I realized Lynch didn't intend it to be funny
I was in my living room about 3 months ago, laughing at how ridiculous Agent Cooper's coffee obsession was. My buddy stopped me mid chuckle and said 'dude, he's not joking, that's the point.' I sat through 2 whole seasons thinking I was in on the joke but really I was just missing the whole damn vibe. Has anyone else had a show completely flip on them like that once you understood the director's real intent?

Nah but hold up, is it really that deep though? Like yeah Lynch is a weird dude but you can't tell me the log lady talking to a piece of wood wasn't meant to be at least a little funny. I've watched a ton of his stuff and he's always got this dry, absurd humor running through it. Maybe he didn't want it to be a laugh riot but he definitely knew people would crack up at the weirdness. Sometimes I think people overanalyze directors like they're these mysterious geniuses who can't also just enjoy a good silly moment, you know?
