The one episode of 'Cop Rock' I managed to find on a bootleg DVD actually explains why that show died so fast

After tracking down a grainy copy from a guy on a message board, I saw the problem wasn't the singing cops, it was that they aired the musical numbers in the wrong order for two episodes and nobody could follow the plot.

Episode 3's murder ballad is the one people always bring up online, but honestly, @noranguyen, I've seen worse tone shifts in actual crime dramas. The Wire had a whole season about dock workers that dragged on forever. People act like a soft rock confession is the end of the world when you could just mute the TV and read subtitles. I watched that episode twice and the tension was fine if you didn't take the music too seriously. It's a weird show, sure, but calling it "dead on arrival" because of one song choice feels like overkill.

Episode 3 had a 7 minute murder confession sung as a soft rock ballad, which completely killed the tension.

Soft rock ballad" sounds more like a choice than a problem.
