I used to think 'The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.' was just a weird western

I finally watched the whole 27 episode run on a streaming service last month. The mix of sci-fi with 1890s bounty hunting, especially the orb plot, totally won me over. Did anyone else catch this show when it was new on Fox in 1993?

You said it was a weird western, but I always thought the weirdness was the whole point. Like when Brisco would talk to his horse Comet about philosophy, or how the bad guys had those futuristic gadgets. The show never tried to be a normal cowboy story. It was its own thing from the start. Did you have a favorite weird moment?

Yeah when you said it was its own thing from the start, that made me remember reading an interview where the creators called it a "science fiction western comedy." That mix is why it worked. Like the episode with the time traveler's pocket watch, or when they found that orb thing. It was never just one genre. I mean, where else would you see a bar fight over a weird glowing rock next to a guy playing a normal poker game? The weirdness wasn't just added on, it was the show.
