Appreciation post: The weird fact I found about Space: 1999's moon base
I was digging around on a fan site last weekend and found out the moon base set for Space: 1999 was actually the biggest indoor set ever built in Europe at the time. It was 200 feet long and cost like 2 million dollars just to build for the first season. That blew my mind because the show only ran for 48 episodes total and most people forgot it existed by the 80s. I always thought the corridors looked huge but I had no clue they were that massive and expensive. Anyone else remember that show or find random stats like this about forgotten sci-fi?

Man, talk about a flex that backfired. They spent two million bucks on a set that was basically a glorified hallway for a show nobody remembers watching. It's like building a mansion just to host a single garage sale. The weirdest part is that I bet those corridors looked even emptier now that they probably cost a fortune to store somewhere. Did they at least recycle the lumber into something useful or is it still sitting in a warehouse somewhere collecting dust?

Right? And the worst part is that hallway set was probably a nightmare to film in too. Bet the camera crew hated having to squeeze around each other just to get a single shot done. Would love to see someone turn it into a really weird escape room or something.

Wait, @adam_hernandez, didn't that show actually get pretty decent ratings for a while?
