Warning: That 'perfectly flat' concrete slab in a Reno kitchen wasn't. Had to pour a whole bag of leveler at 10 PM.

Been there, done that, and still have the half-empty bag of leveler in my garage to prove it. My own "level" subfloor turned a simple tile job into a two-day nightmare. You start questioning your own eyesight after the third check with the laser. It's amazing how a project can go from simple to salvage operation in the time it takes to mix a bucket.

Has anyone considered how the time of day might be messing with your level readings? @loganbaker, I had a similar disaster and finally realized my floor was in full sun during my morning checks. The whole slab had a slight thermal expansion, making my level perfect at 8 AM but a complete mess by noon. It's not just our eyesight playing tricks, the house itself is moving while we work. I won't even start a check now without closing the blinds and waiting an hour for temps to settle. That leftover leveler in the garage is a monument to learning that lesson the hard way.

I swear that line about questioning your own eyesight hits too close to home. I spent a whole afternoon checking my floor with a 6-foot level, moving it around, thinking maybe I was just getting old or something. Turns out my laser level had a bubble that was slightly off, so I was chasing a phantom reading for hours. The half bag of leveler in my garage might as well be a memorial to all the time I wasted that day.
