Warning: a homeowner in Boise made me rethink my whole approach to underlayment
I was finishing a glue-down vinyl job last week, and the client asked me why I was using a 6mm pad instead of something thinner. He said his last installer told him a thick pad could void the warranty on rigid core planks. I checked the manufacturer specs right there, and he was totally right. I've been doing it that way for years without a second thought. Has anyone else had a warranty call over something like this?

That's a really good point about warranties. I always figured more cushion was better for comfort and sound. Now I double check the install guide every time, even on familiar brands.

Right? What else do we just assume is fine without checking the manual?

Right, like my friend who thought "a little extra" on the torque specs was just being thorough (spoiler: it wasn't). I'm now the proud owner of a stripped screw hole and a very annoying rattle.
