Thinking back to how we used to handle big glue-down jobs as a team

Back in the day, three of us would line up and work in sync, one mixing glue while others rolled it out. Now it's mostly solo work with prepackaged adhesives and tight deadlines from the office. The chatter and shared effort made long floors feel shorter, and you learned tricks just by watching. These days, it's quieter and faster, but I kind of miss that crew rhythm.

Ugh, PROGRESS means no more work friends, just glue.

But from my view, progress doesn't have to kill work friendships. New ways of working can actually bring people closer if we use them right. The glue might be the shared goals and laughs that keep teams together. Change is scary, but it doesn't mean we're all just stuck in place. We can still have those coffee breaks and chat, even if the office looks different.

Watching my cousin's crew tackle a gym floor in Toledo last spring changed my tune. I used to swear by prepackaged glue and solo work, thinking it was pure progress. But seeing three guys move like robots with no chat made the job look miserable. Now I miss the old chaos of mixing buckets and passing rollers, even with the mess. Sometimes getting it done fast means losing the fun that keeps you going.
