Was told to route all my cables under the desk and now my legs keep hitting them

A buddy of mine named Mike swore I should zip-tie every single cable under my desk for a cleaner look. Tried it last weekend and honestly now my knees bump into a mess of wires every time I shift. The power strip is hanging sideways and one USB cable already came loose. Has anyone else found a middle ground between clean and functional?

Your buddy Mike swore by zip-ties, but that setup clearly isn't working for you. I'd skip the tight bundling and just use a few wide velcro straps to keep cables loosely together along the back edge of the desk. Your legs will stop hitting them and you won't have to redo everything when one cable comes loose.

Magnetic cable clips on the underside might work better since they stick to metal desks without adhesive.

seanjohnson, have you actually tried this with a bunch of different cables or is this more of a guess? Because I've been using velcro straps for years and here's the thing - they never stay put once you start plugging and unplugging stuff regularly. The adhesive on the back of those wide ones always peels off after a month or two, especially near my desk's metal edge where it gets warm from my PC. Can't blame you for hating zip-ties though, Mike's method is a mess the second you need to swap out one cable. But I'm wondering if you've got a specific brand of velcro that doesn't let go over time.
