Realized I've been using the wrong kind of caulk for my bathroom tiles in Austin

I was redoing the grout in my shower last week and kept having issues with the new silicone peeling away after a few days. My neighbor, who's a retired contractor, came over for a beer and pointed out I was using an acrylic latex caulk, not a 100% silicone one meant for wet areas. He said the humidity here in Austin just breaks down the wrong type. Has anyone else made this mistake and found a good brand of silicone caulk that holds up?

Ugh, how long did it take you to scrape all that off? Been there. I used that basic stuff from a big box store on my kitchen backsplash and it was a total waste of time. It shrank and cracked in a month. Your neighbor is totally right about the humidity here. I switched to GE Advanced Silicone 2 for my shower corners. It’s a bit more expensive but it actually sticks and stays flexible. The key is to make sure the tube says 100% silicone and for kitchens and baths.

Total waste of time" is the official review for that stuff.

Heard that stuff peels right off in the humidity.
