Pro tip: A $5 tube of silicone caulk saved my kitchen floor from a slow leak

I noticed a soft spot near the sink last week and traced it to a tiny gap under the dishwasher. I sealed it up, and the subfloor dried out fine. Anyone know a good way to check for hidden water damage without tearing up the tile?

Oh man, that reminds me of the time my fridge line leaked behind the cabinets. We only found it because the dog wouldn't stop sniffing the floor.

Ugh, that's a total band-aid fix. @taylor.paige's dog had the right idea.

The dog wouldn't stop sniffing the floor" is exactly how I found out my water heater was slowly leaking last year. My cat kept pawing at a specific spot on the basement concrete for days and I thought she was just being weird. Turns out there was a pin-hole leak soaking into the drywall from behind. That little pawing saved me from a full mold situation. Animals just know when something's off.
