Patching a drywall hole with a flattened cereal box saved me $80
Last week I punched a hole in my hallway wall moving a couch, and instead of buying a patch kit I just cut a Frosted Flakes box to size, slapped some spackle over it, and sanded it smooth. Has anyone else used random household stuff for drywall repairs instead of buying the real thing?

Wait, you're telling me a cereal box actually holds up with just spackle over it? I always thought that was a hack that would look terrible after a week but I guess if it's smooth it's smooth.

My uncle once tried to fix a hole in his drywall with a flattened pizza box and joint compound. Lasted about three years until his cat walked through it during a midnight zoomie session. Spackle is surprisingly forgiving as long as you don't poke it.
