My bathroom faucet swap turned into a two day fight with old plumbing

Thought I'd swap out a leaky bathroom faucet last weekend, figured it was a one hour job. The old shutoff valves under the sink were completely stuck, so I had to turn off the main house water. Then I found the old supply lines were corroded onto the faucet nuts and I had to cut them off with a mini hacksaw in that tight space. What should have taken an hour ended up taking me all of Saturday and most of Sunday morning. Anyone else have a 'simple' plumbing job blow up because of old parts?

Cutting them off with a mini hacksaw sounds brutal.

That feeling when a simple fix turns into a battle is way too common. It seems like every home project has a hidden step where you fight with the past owner's choices or just old, tired parts. You end up learning way more than you wanted to about how things were put together fifty years ago. It’s a good reminder that time and rust always win in the end.

Old plumbing is a perfect example of how the easiest tasks get complicated by past decisions we have to live with now.
