I spent $40 on a stud finder that kept giving false readings in my old house.
My neighbor lent me his basic magnetic one, and it found every stud right away without any batteries. Now I feel like I wasted my money on the fancy electronic version. Has anyone else had better luck with the simple tools over the new ones?

My buddy Mark bought a $50 laser level for tiling his bathroom. He spent an hour trying to get it to sync up right. His dad came over with a four foot long spirit level and a pencil, had the whole grid marked in like ten minutes. Mark just shook his head and put the laser back in the box, it's been in his closet for two years now.

That laser level story is so familiar, my expensive digital angle finder was totally useless compared to my grandpa's old metal one.

Spent three hours with my digital level before realizing my cat could have eyeballed it straighter.
