Frozen my butter in the garage for 3 years and it was fine

My grandma told me to freeze butter for emergencies and I thought she was just being old school. But after that ice storm last February knocked out power for 5 days, I grabbed a block I'd forgotten about. Thawed it out on the counter, used it for biscuits, no weird taste or texture. Now I keep 4 pounds in the deep freezer. Anybody else store stuff longer than you're "supposed to" and it worked out?

Gotta push back a little here. Butter has a ton of fat and very little water, so it handles freezing way better than most things, but three years feels like testing your luck with freezer burn or off flavors. I've kept butter frozen for a year and it was fine, but anything past that and you're basically relying on luck and how airtight your wrap is.

You ever try freezing it in the original box with an extra layer of plastic wrap? That's what I do and I've pulled bricks out after 2 years that were fine.

3 years is pushing it even for butter in my book.
