Can we talk about how much money I wasted on dryer sheets before learning this?
I read online that dryer sheets leave a waxy coating on your lint filter that reduces airflow and makes your dryer work harder. So I checked my filter after a few loads and sure enough, it had this shiny film on it. I washed it with warm water and a toothbrush, and now my clothes dry in 35 minutes instead of 50. Has anyone else noticed this or am I just the last person to find out?

Felt kind of dumb when I figured this out too. I used dryer sheets for years without ever thinking about the lint filter buildup. Scraped mine with a butter knife and a toothbrush and was shocked at the gunk that came off. Made a huge difference in drying time for me too. Have you noticed less static cling since you switched away from them?

My friend Sarah told me she had the exact same butter knife moment, except she used a pair of tweezers to pick off this weird waxy coating that had built up inside the filter slot. Said it looked like melted candle wax mixed with dryer lint and she almost gagged. She stopped using dryer sheets a few months ago and swears her clothes don't stick to her leggings anymore either. Now she just tosses a couple wool dryer balls in with her towels and says it's way better.
