Wasted $150 on a cheap fabric dyeing kit

I bought this discount fabric dye kit online last month thinking I could save some cash by dyeing my own clothes at home. Tried it on an old cotton dress and the color came out patchy and uneven no matter what I did. Followed the instructions exactly but the dye just wouldn't set right on the fabric. Ended up ruining the dress and had to throw it out. Then I spent another $40 on proper professional dye from a craft store that actually worked. So in total I wasted about $150 on that cheap kit and a dress I can't wear anymore. Has anyone else had bad luck with those budget dye kits or found one that actually works?

Man I did the same thing and ended up with a tie-dye disaster that looked like a clown exploded.

At least you got a clown explosion, I got a sad beige situation that looked like someone dipped my dress in dirty bathwater lol.

Oh man, a buddy of mine tried one of those cheap kits on a white denim jacket and it came out looking like she spilled grape juice on it in weird stripes. She spent hours trying to fix it with salt and vinegar like the internet said, but it just turned into a muddy purple mess. I think she ended up donating the jacket and swearing off DIY dye forever.

Damn, that sucks. Did she try a different brand or just gave up completely after that mess?

Yeah, that sounds about right. Seems like those cheap kits are a total crapshoot.
