Warning: My sister told me my 'statement piece' idea was just a gimmick

I was sketching a dress with a huge, removable collar that lit up, and she said, 'Who is that for, a runway or a person?' It hit different because she designs clothes for people with real jobs, like nurses who need pockets. Has anyone else had a cool design shot down for being impractical?

Ugh, that feeling is the worst. It's like you're flying high on a creative idea and then someone points out the ground. Your sister's point about real jobs hits hard, because clothes should be for living in. That collar sounds awesome as art, but I get why it stings to hear it might not work for everyday. We all need those reality checks, even if they hurt in the moment.

Steam-powered boots sound like a slip hazard waiting to happen, @nina_knight99. Your friend wasn't wrong, but ouch. It's always the people with normal jobs who bring the harshest, most useful reality checks.

Honestly, the "runway or a person" line is so real. I once spent a week on these amazing heeled boots that had little water pumps in the soles to make them steam. My friend who works at a vet clinic just stared and said, "Cool, but when do I wear it, to mop the floor?" It totally burst my bubble. Sometimes you get so into the art you forget about stuff like, you know, walking.
