Remember when everyone swore by those expensive sewing patterns in the 90s?
I spent $35 on a Vogue pattern back in 2002 that fit so terribly I had to re-cut the entire bodice, and now I buy indie PDF patterns for $12 that come with detailed instructions and actually work - has anyone else found the quality shift worthwhile?

...and that's exactly what happened to my friend Carol. She spent a whole weekend on a Burda pattern back in '04, ended up with a bodice that pulled so badly across the shoulders she looked like she was wearing a child's costume. She finally switched over to indie PDF patterns about three years ago and now she actually enjoys sewing again. The instructions are so much clearer and she says she doesn't have to guess at half the steps. Plus she can print just the size she needs instead of tracing off layers of tissue paper that always seem to rip.

Did I just spend 3 hours wrestling with a $35 Vogue pattern that still fit like a potato sack? Yep, been there, done that, threw it in a drawer to never see the light of day again. Those indie PDFs are a game changer for sure, the directions actually make sense and the pieces don't look like a puzzle from Mars. I still have a few vintage patterns I swear by, but for new stuff, I'm all digital now. It's like getting a masterclass for the price of a lunch, and I don't have to yell at my printer.
