Just realized that recycled polyester fabric isn't the sustainability fix I thought it was

I was all about buying fabrics made from recycled bottles for like two years. Then I read this article from a textile engineer in Portland who broke down how each wash sheds microplastics just like regular polyester. Kinda blew my mind since I'd been telling everyone it was the eco-friendly choice. She said the real win is just buying less stuff overall. Anyone else find out something similar about a fabric they thought was totally green?

So what fabrics are actually safe from shedding plastics then?

It's a bummer to realize something you thought was solid turns out to have a hidden downside like that. A lot of the time the "green" labels are just marketing and not the whole truth. Buying less really seems to be the only way to be sure.
