Am I the only one who can't stand dropped waist seams on dresses?

I was at a thrift store in Austin last Saturday and tried on this vintage 70s dress that had a dropped waist. The seam hit right at my hip bone and made me look like a box. I ended up cutting the dress up for a skirt project instead. Has anyone else just given up on that silhouette entirely?

Oh man, dropped waists are the worst for that boxy look! I actually think they work great on petite frames though, like my sister who's 5'2" and they give her this cool elongated silhouette.

Nah I used to actually defend dropped waist dresses because I thought they had this cool vintage vibe and I liked how they skimmed over my stomach area. But last month I bought this red one off Depop and the seam sat right on the widest part of my hips and it completely killed any shape I had. That boxy look is real and now I'm with you on this. My sewing machine got a new project out of it too, turned it into a crop top that actually looks good.
