Just got back from shoeing horses at a dude ranch in New Mexico
I was out there for a week helping with their spring shoeing, and it was a blast. The terrain is super dry, so we dealt with a lot of hard, cracked hooves. I had to adapt my usual method for moisturizing the feet before trimming. One of the ranch hands showed me a local mix using lanolin and beeswax that worked great. We got through all twenty horses without any issues, which felt like a huge win. The views were amazing, with mesas in the background while we worked. I even picked up a few Spanish terms for tools from the crew. Overall, it was a neat experience that boosted my skills for arid climates, lol.
