Found a neat trick for fixing cracked hooves at a clinic in Billings

I went to a clinic over in Billings last weekend and one of the old timers showed me this method with wet felt and epoxy for patching cracks. He used it on a mare with a quarter crack that went halfway up, and after 20 minutes it felt solid. I tried it yesterday on a draft horse with a heel crack and it held up way better than the acrylic I usually use. Anyone else mess around with this kind of patch or stick to the standard stuff?

My buddy tried it on a gelding and it held through a whole Montana winter.

Pulled the felt out of my tack box and stared at it for a solid minute after reading this. I've been using acrylic patches for years on quarter cracks and they always pop off after a week in the wet. Never even thought to try felt and epoxy together. What kind of epoxy did he use, the two-tube stuff from the hardware store or something specific for hooves?

Patched my own truck tire once with felt and hardware store epoxy. Held for about 3 miles before it blew like a balloon. Guess hooves are a little tougher.
