Bought a cheap hoof stand that broke after two horses

I got a no-name stand online for $85 thinking it would save me cash. The leg snapped clean off while I was working on a big draft cross last Tuesday. What do you guys use that can actually take the weight?

Check the actual weight rating, not just the brand. I've seen stands that look solid but are only rated for 800 pounds, and a draft cross can lean way more than that. @ramirez.blair is right about Tough-1 being solid, but even then, you gotta match the model to your horse.

My friend's cheap stand broke just like yours, so she finally bought a Tough-1 and it's a tank.

Whoa, wait a second. An $85 stand? That's wild. I mean, I've bought cheap stuff before and regretted it, but I've never seen a leg snap clean off like that. You must have been standing right there when it happened, that's terrifying. A draft cross leaning into it puts way more stress than most people think, those horses can shift their weight in a split second. I honestly can't believe they sell those things without a warning label or something. Take this with a grain of salt, but I'd be looking at a used one from a good brand if you can find one, even if it's a little beat up.
