Warning: I put a whole cup of sugar in my grandma's chili recipe and it was actually good

I was making her Cincinnati-style chili from the old card last week and misread 'tsp' for 'cup' when adding the brown sugar. It came out weirdly sweet and rich, not what I expected at all. Has anyone else ever messed up a family recipe and had it turn out okay?

Sweet chili sounds wild, @noranguyen's garlic loaf too.

Yeah that reminds me of my buddy who tried to make a fancy pepper rub for steaks. He grabbed the wrong jar and used a ton of ghost pepper powder instead of smoked paprika. We were all crying and chugging milk, but his dad, who loves crazy hot stuff, thought it was the best meal ever. Now he has to make a separate batch just for his dad every time. Some mistakes just stick.

Oh man, that's a huge mix-up but I'm glad it worked out. I once doubled the garlic in my mom's meatloaf by accident, like a whole bulb instead of a few cloves. It was basically vampire repellent but my brother loved it and now he asks me to make it that way.
