Vent: My grandma's biscuit recipe never worked until I watched her in Memphis

I realized I was over-mixing the dough after seeing her use a light touch for just 15 seconds. Anyone have a trick for keeping your hands cold while you work?

Might be worth trying a pastry blender too, keeps your hands off the dough entirely. @holly_green82 is right about the cold hands trick though, grandma taught me to run my hands under cold tap water before working the dough. Just don't soak em, a quick rinse is enough. Over-mixing is the real enemy, I learned that the hard way too.

Oh man, that's the secret right there! I keep a big bowl of ice water next to me and dunk my hands for a few seconds before I start. It really helps keep the butter from melting into the flour. What other recipes have you tried this with?

Wait you actually dunk your hands in ice water? That sounds like a special kind of kitchen torture. I just use a fork like a normal person.
