Shoutout to my grandma's handwritten recipe card for banana bread that she mailed me from Phoenix in 2019
My oven runs 25 degrees hot and I never caught it until I followed her scribbled note to test with a toothpick instead of trusting the timer, and now three loaves on the counter later I'm wondering why I waited so long to just ask for her help.

Bro, the "test with a toothpick instead of trusting the timer" line hit me right in the gut lol. I had the exact same thing happen with my dad's chili recipe, I had been burning it for years because my stove runs crazy hot. Finally called him up and he was like "just look for the little bubbles around the edge" and now it comes out perfect every time. It's wild how a little handwritten note from family can fix something you didn't even know was broke. Bet those three loaves are the best you've ever made.

Look for the little bubbles around the edge" - that sounds like some secret wizard spell your dad dropped on you lol. I swear family recipes come with invisible instructions that nobody writes down until you screw up for years. Glad you and @charlie_allen are both finally making food that doesn't taste like regret.

My buddy Mike had the same thing with his mom's meatloaf recipe. He kept burning it for like 2 years before he called her up and she was like "oh yeah, just look for the little cracks on top." Now his meatloaf is legendary. Funny how the stuff that works best is never in the recipe lol.
