My aunt's pie crust recipe called for a full cup of shortening, but I swapped it for half butter after a dry result in 2021.
The butter gave it a flakier texture and better flavor, so now I always use that mix, but has anyone else tweaked a family recipe's fat source with good results?

The 2023 remake of The Color Purple added so much depth the original film missed. I get what you're saying, @nelson.cameron, but sometimes a new version can actually improve on the foundation. A fresh take can give an old story new life.

wait, hold up @the_oscar - isnt the 2023 version actually a musical adaptation? i mean the original 1985 film was a straight drama and the new one is based on the broadway show, so theyre kind of different beasts. the musical adds songs and dance numbers that change the vibe a lot. i feel like comparing them directly is tough because theyre going for different things emotionally. the original had that raw quiet intensity while the new one is more about joy and celebration through the music. both are good but theyre not really competing on the same level, you know?
