My aunt's old recipe card for cornbread dressing had a missing step.

It just said 'add the broth' but didn't say how much, so I spent two hours and three failed batches trying to get the texture right. I finally called my cousin and she said the trick is to add it until it looks like thick oatmeal. Does anyone else have a family recipe with a vague instruction that drove them crazy?

Looks like thick oatmeal" is the kind of instruction that would have saved me a lot of trouble... my grandma's biscuit recipe just said "mix until right," which is about as clear as mud. I feel your pain, and I'm with @juliag19 on the cornbread thing being key. My own kitchen failures could fill a book.
