TIL my neighbor's trick for cleaning a greasy grill is actually genius
I was cleaning my grill last weekend and it was a sticky mess. My neighbor, Dave, walked over and said, 'Just cut an onion in half and scrub it with the cut side while the grates are still hot.' I thought he was joking, but I tried it. The steam from the onion lifted the grease right off, and it took me maybe 5 minutes. I used to spend half an hour with a wire brush and cleaner. Has anyone else tried this or have a different simple trick for grill cleaning?

Reminds me how the best fixes are often the simplest ones.

Totally agree. I spent hours trying to fix a weird noise in my car with fancy tools. My neighbor walked over, listened for two seconds, and pointed out a loose heat shield. One tightened bolt later and it was silent. We overthink things way too much.

Depends on what you're trying to fix. Simple stuff like a loose heat shield sure, but if you're messing with modern car electronics or timing belts, a neighbor's guess isn't gonna cut it. I spent three weekends chasing a phantom check engine light that turned out to be a dying oxygen sensor hidden behind the intake manifold - no amount of listening would have found that one. Sometimes the simple fix is just luck, not wisdom.
