PSA: That $50 discount bread machine I found at a garage sale was a complete waste
The thing burned every loaf on the outside while leaving the inside doughy, and I spent way more on ruined ingredients than I saved. Has anyone else had luck with cheap bread machines, or is it just not worth it?

Yeah, "always the cheap shortcut that ends up costing you twice as much" is exactly what happened here. I read somewhere that cheap bread machines often have bad heat distribution because they skimp on the heating elements. So honestly for bread machines, it's probably better to save up for a decent one or just stick with hand kneading.

Tbh I think the whole "cheap shortcut costing you twice" thing is overblown sometimes. I grabbed a $40 bread machine off Craigslist three years ago and it makes perfectly fine loaves every time. Honestly people just want to justify spending $300 on a machine when a basic one will do the job if you know what you're doing.
