My neighbor told me to put a damp sponge in the microwave to clean it and it actually worked
I was complaining about the baked on spaghetti sauce in my microwave to my neighbor, Frank, last Thursday. He just looked at me and said, 'You're making it hard. Put a wet sponge in there and run it for two minutes. The steam loosens everything.' I thought he was nuts, but I tried it with a regular kitchen sponge. After it beeped, I opened the door and the whole inside was foggy. I wiped it down with the same sponge and every single spot of gunk came right off with zero scrubbing. It took maybe five minutes total, including the microwave time. I've been scraping and using sprays for years. Has anyone else got a weird trick for cleaning something else that actually works?

That's a great tip, I'm definitely trying that next time. My question is about the sponge itself though. After you use it to wipe down all that greasy mess, what do you do with it? Doesn't it get pretty gross, and is it safe to use for dishes again after?

Did you use just plain water on the sponge, or did you add a little vinegar or lemon juice to it? I've heard that can help with smells too, but I'm worried the acid might do something funky to the microwave if it steams up.
