Don't fall for those $30 fridge water filter scams like I did

I bought a no-name filter on Amazon for 30 bucks last month and it worked fine for 2 weeks, then started leaking all over my kitchen floor. Ruined a corner of my laminate and cost me way more to replace than what I saved. Stick with the brand name or at least check reviews for leaks before buying. Anyone else had a cheap filter dump water everywhere?

Funny you say that... I actually bought a $25 no-name filter off eBay about 6 months ago and it's still going strong with zero leaks. Maybe I just got lucky, but I've had brand name filters fail on me before too, so I don't see it as a brand vs generic thing. The key is checking the reviews specifically for leaks and making sure the o-ring is seated right when you install it... most failures I've seen are from people not tightening it all the way or the rubber seal getting pinched.

I had a buddy who went the cheapo route, bought a $12 filter from some random seller on Amazon. Worked fine for a couple months, then one night he woke up to water dripping down his kitchen cabinets. By the time he found the leak, the particle board underneath was all swollen and warped. Cost him way more to replace the cabinet than if he'd just spent $30 on a decent one.
