Caught my neighbor setting timers for his washing machine at 2am

Last week I couldn't sleep and saw my neighbor Steve go out to his garage at 2 in the morning to start his washer. Turns out he runs all his laundry during off-peak hours to save on electric bills. He said he cuts his power cost by about $25 a month doing this. Has anyone else tried shifting appliance times to save money like this?

You really think saving $25 a month is worth hauling laundry at 2 in the morning? With wear and tear on the machine and your sleep schedule, that seems like a wash at best. I'd rather just pay the extra and keep my routine normal.
