Took me 45 minutes to figure out why my hyaluronic acid serum was pilling on clients

I kept layering HA serum under moisturizer for 2 weeks and everyone at my Portland studio had little rubbery balls forming on their skin. Turns out I was applying it bone dry instead of on damp skin like my instructor told me back in school. How long did it take any of you to catch a basic mistake you should have known from day one?

Oh man, I feel this deep in my soul. I read somewhere that a lot of people mess this up because HA is a humectant and needs water to grip onto. If you put it on dry skin, it just pulls moisture from your skin instead of the air, which is basically the opposite of what you want. I did the same thing for weeks with my own routine and wondered why my face felt tight after. Glad you figured it out though, now you can save your clients from the little rubbery ball situation.

Actually, I've read research showing dry skin doesn't pull water from deeper layers.
