My mentor said to stop over-exfoliating sensitive skin and I finally listened
I had this client with red, irritated patches that would not go away no matter what. My old mentor from school told me six months ago to just use a gentle cleanser and moisturizer for a month, no active ingredients. I thought she was wrong because the client wanted results fast. Finally tried it after 3 weeks of nothing working. Skin cleared up in 10 days. Has anyone else had a senior esthetician give advice that went against what you were taught?

Ever think maybe part of the problem is that newer textbooks push those active ingredients harder than they should? Might be something worth looking into.

Isn't that the truth? I remember when I was in school we just had "aspirin" and "acetaminophen" and that was about it. Now the textbooks practically read like a drugstore shelf. It's like they're trying to turn every kid into a little pharmacist before they can even drive. No wonder everyone thinks they need a pill for every little ache.
