Client told me my extractions were too harsh - changed everything
Had a regular in Detroit last Tuesday tell me she was dreading coming in because my extractions hurt so bad. I thought firm pressure was the way to get deep pores clear, but she said it just made her skin red for 2 days. Switched to using a magnifying lamp and doing gentle rolling motions instead of digging, and now she actually falls asleep during facials. Anyone else have a client critique that made you rethink your whole technique?

Is getting honest feedback really that bad if it makes you better at your job?

I was the same way for years. I thought people just needed to toughen up, especially with deep pore work. But a client told me I was bruising her and she'd rather have average results than red marks for a week. That really made me stop and think. What @cameronb52 said is right, honest feedback can be a gift even when it stings at first. Now I do a lot more prep work with steam and warm towels before I even touch their face. It slowed me down at first but my retention went way up after I made the switch.

Hold on, people were getting bruises from facials? That's insane to me. I had no idea deep pore work could leave someone marked up for a week. That sounds more like a fight than a skincare treatment. Good on that client for speaking up though, most people would probably just not come back and say nothing.
