A client in Austin told me her skin felt 'like a cactus' after a new serum

She came in for a facial and said the tight, dry feeling started two days after she began using a popular vitamin C product. It made me rethink how I talk about starting new actives. How do you guys handle client questions when they react badly to something they bought online?

Ever feel like a lizard shedding its skin? That tight cactus feeling is usually a sign the product is too strong or the wrong fit. Maybe she jumped into a high concentration without building up to it first.

Honestly, the bigger issue is how many serums are basically just perfume and water. That tight feeling might be from alcohol drying her out, not the vitamin C itself.

Also, a lot of people don't check the pH. If the formula is too acidic, it can cause that stinging and tightness no matter what's in it. She might need a gentler formula with a lower concentration, like 10% instead of 20.
