This old timer in a Chicago service bay told me 'the car always tells you the truth, you just have to listen' and I keep thinking about it.

He said it after I spent an hour chasing a phantom door fault that turned out to be a single frayed wire in the COP, and now I wonder if that's the best advice for new guys or if it makes them overthink simple fixes.

Man that's so true. I wasted a whole weekend on a rough idle once. Chased sensors, cleaned everything. It was just a cracked vacuum hose you could hear if you got real quiet. You gotta start with the simple stuff first, listen close, then follow where it leads. Old guys know things.

Man, why do we always skip the easy stuff first? @noranguyen, I bet you felt like a genius once you found that tiny crack, but also wanted to kick something lol. It's like our brains go straight to the most expensive fix possible. That quiet hiss is the car basically telling you the answer, and we're just ignoring it for two days.

Ugh, classic case of looking for zebras when it's just a horse.
