PSA: Stop using WD-40 on elevator door locks, grab some silicone spray instead
I used to swear by WD-40 for sticky door locks until I had to replace three hall lock assemblies in a month at a 12-story building in Austin last spring, and an old foreman told me silicone spray lasts way longer and doesn't gum up the contacts, anyone else made that switch?

Pulled three hall lock assemblies in one month? That's wild. I've got a ten-story building I do maintenance for and I can't imagine swapping out that many locks that fast. The cost alone would have my boss asking some serious questions. Silicone spray is definitely the way to go though, I switched after watching a guy spend a whole afternoon digging WD-40 gunk out of a mortise lock and it was a mess.

Buddy of mine had to replace a whole floor's worth after someone used motor oil on them.

Actually WD-40 is more of a solvent than a lubricant. People use it for everything but it's meant to displace water, not grease up locks. Silicone spray or graphite powder is the right call. Learned that the hard way after gumming up a lock on my own damn front door.
