Overheard a building manager in Denver say they'd skip the annual governor test to save cash

I was at a supply house yesterday and heard a guy on the phone telling his boss he could push the test back six months. He said the car was 'running fine' and it was 'just a formality'. That's a huge red flag for me, because I've seen what happens when a governor fails. Has anyone else run into owners trying to cut corners on safety checks lately?

Honestly, that's how people get hurt. I'd call the fire marshal's office and report it anonymously, because that test is there for a reason. Tbh, a governor failing isn't just about the elevator stopping, it's about it going too fast. Seen the aftermath once and you don't forget it. Saving a few bucks is never worth that risk.

Yeah, I'm sure their insurance company will find that "cost-saving measure" hilarious.

Used to think those yearly checks were just red tape too, until a governor failed in a building down the street from my old shop. The car didn't just stop, it slammed into the overhead. The repair bill was insane, and the whole thing was shut down for weeks. Now that "formality" looks a lot cheaper than the alternative, and skipping it feels like playing with fire.
