Just learned from a city inspector that over 60% of elevator call button faults in older buildings are from people hitting them too hard, not electrical issues.

Is it just frustration that makes people hit them so hard? I've seen the same thing with public bathroom hand dryers, people smack the button like it owes them money. We treat public stuff way worse than our own things.

Tried putting a little sticker next to the elevator button in my old apartment building. It was just a smiley face, but it cut down on the angry punching by a lot. People just need a small reminder to be less aggressive.
