Watching a friend try to fix his laptop made me realize people skip the basic checks

He spent an hour taking apart his Dell XPS 13 to look for a loose cable when the whole time it just needed a hard reset. I see this a lot, where folks jump straight to the most complex fix without doing the simple stuff first, like checking the power supply or reseating the RAM. It wastes so much time. What's the most obvious step you see people forget before they open something up?

Sometimes you gotta open it up to find the simple fix.

Sometimes you gotta open it up" - nah, I gotta DISAGREE with you there @jason524. Opening things up is how you break MORE stuff or end up with extra screws on the floor. Power button test should catch cable issues before you even touch a screwdriver.

An hour on a loose cable? @jason524, that's brutal. The power button test is step one.
