TIL I was using the wrong flux for 2 years on circuit board repairs
A customer brought in an old receiver from the 80s and pointed out my solder joints looked frosty, so I checked the flux label and realized I'd been using plumbing flux instead of rosin core this whole time, has anyone else made that dumb mistake?

Wait, did the butter actually work or did you just fry the whole board? @wesley_thompson that's wild. I've been in construction for years and I can tell you plumbing flux is a completely different beast - it's meant for copper pipes not delicate circuit traces. That frosty look is probably from all the leftover acid eating at your joints over time.
