Shoutout to the tech who showed me a trick with a heat gun on a stubborn Xbox HDMI port

I was ready to order a whole new port last week, but he just used a low setting and some flux to reflow the old solder joints. Anyone have a different method for those tiny, packed-in connections?

Saw a video using a hot air station instead.

Hot air stations are great for that kind of work, but a heat gun with a small nozzle can do the job if you're careful. You just have to shield the plastic parts around the port with kapton tape. I've seen people use too much heat and warp the board, so low and slow is key. A good flux makes all the difference for getting the solder to flow right.

My first hot air rework was a disaster because I skipped the kapton tape step. Melted the USB housing right onto the motherboard, which was a real pain to clean up. Now I treat that tape like it's made of gold.
