I overheard a client say 'just use any old thermal paste' while fixing his gaming PC

He was telling his friend to grab whatever was cheap at the store for a CPU repaste job. That stuff can dry out or not transfer heat right, leading to a quick comeback repair. Anyone else run into this kind of advice from customers?

Ugh, that's the worst. I just keep a decent tube on hand and tell them the cheap stuff turns to chalk in six months. Saved me a ton of callbacks.

Totally agree! I started doing the same thing last year after a customer complained about a cracked seal. Now I just show them the difference between the good tube and the chalky mess from the hardware store brand.

Cheap paste can actually damage the socket over time.
