From my shop: Overtightening laptop screws is a hidden disaster

Most techs crank them down to avoid loosening, but that stress cracks plastic frames over time. I just do a quarter-turn past finger tight and never have callbacks.

Learned to stop over-tightening after I cracked a hinge on my own laptop. Used to give it that extra "just in case" turn, which was always a mistake. Now I stop as soon as the screw seats properly. No more broken plastic parts, and everything stays together fine. It's all about feeling the resistance, not fighting it.

Isn't this just how people wreck most things by using too much force?

Can you tell I've broken a few things learning that lesson myself?
