Finally fixed a 2019 MacBook Pro with that weird backlight issue

Had a client bring one in last Tuesday, screen was totally dark but you could see a faint image with a flashlight. Spent like two hours checking the usual flex cable, but it was actually a single blown capacitor on the backlight circuit, C7702 on the board diagram. Anyone else run into this specific fail point on the A2159 model?

Totally know that exact pain. Had the same model with the same dark screen last month. Spent forever on the cables before spotting that tiny capacitor near the connector. Replaced it with one from an old donor board and the screen lit right up. Felt so good to fix it without a whole display swap.

Honestly though, that sounds like a huge waste of time for most people. Most folks don't have donor boards just lying around or the tools to do that micro soldering. You could easily mess up the whole board and make it worse. Just swapping the display is way faster and more reliable, even if it costs a bit more. It's cool it worked for you, but telling people to hunt for tiny capacitors is bad advice for the average person trying to fix their laptop.
